Part of my daily routine at this time of year is to check on the progress of my front yard pumpkin crop. Every day. So I was delighted today to notice the appearance of several flowers.
And I wasn't the only one. My delight was apparently shared by a couple of slugs. Enjoying the recent wet weather and munching happily on said flowers. They've since been moved to another location. Somewhere more conducive to their health.
I'll need to remain vigilant.

Drown them in beer. Seriously. Slugs love beer. They can drown in them. They die happy.
Oh no! Just look at that slimy little guy. You might be doing this already, but crushed up eggshells work miracles. Just crush the shells and sprinkle the pieces around the base of your plants. The slugs won't like the sharp edges of the shells.
P.S. ~ You might want to wash the egg residue off the shells before putting them out. You never know what kind of critter might be attracted to the egg scent. Good luck! :)
I am not sure if I have introduced myself before..I am Pumpkin Cottage and I am really glad to find you!
Hopefully those slugs will find another home..not your pumpkin! I'll be watching :)
Ugh...slugs! :o(
Go forth and protect...what ever you must do, but some MUST survive!
Oh no! My first pumpkin on the vine was being nibbled at but then the critter stopped. Love how fast everything grows at this time of year. :o )
I've heard of the beer but not the eggshells. This is the first year that they've been gathering in the front yard, so I'll be watching them carefully.
Beer in a lid works. But by removing them they may move on. It's nice to see your pumpkin flowering, none for us this year. Which is sad!
Cheeky buggers. I've had some doozies this year too, due to the wetter than normal weather. Your flowers look great though - can't wait to see the pumpkins!
