pumpkin patch 4.0

Anyone who's been following my pumpkin growing adventures over the past several years might remember the heartbreak and the joy I've experienced on my road to home-grown jack-o-lantern glory.

And now, as June begins and the danger of frost has (hopefully) passed, it's time to do it all again.

It's been a steep learning curve and the lessons have been significant:  don't plant pumpkins in partial shade; don't plant pumpkins on the lawn if you plan to mow it in August; don't  allow fledgling pumpkins to grow between the posts of the veranda.  And on and on . . .

My education has been invaluable.

I expect great things from the crop of 2012.

Good luck! I remember the saga of the pumpkins between the veranda posts. :) How frustrating! I'm sure your crop will do better this year. I can't wait to see the progress.

Wishing you the best of luck for 2012. I know well the trials and sorrows of trying to grow pumpkins. The best year that I ever had was when I just tossed the old Jacks into the field behind our house and the next year they grew on their own. But I still try...there is always the promise in the spring for that super year!

I figure if I keep reading about your pumpkin adventures when I finally have a patch of ground to work with myself, I should know some of the dos and don'ts. Good luck this year, I can't wait to see them!!
