This Victoria Day long weekend was the warmest and sunniest in recent memory. It was the perfect beginning to beer-drinking season, typically a warm-weather activity for me. And as such, it was the perfect excuse to add to my spooky beer bottle collection.
As usual, the label was more interesting than the contents of the bottle.

Haha, isn't that always the case? The cooler the label, the more average the actual flavor it seems. Oh well, that label is awesome.
hey, some old classics from Québec! I think I had La Paienne. The Trois-Pistoles is delicious and the label based on an old legend (which itself has origins that date back to Norse mythology). There is the Hobgoblin of course, from England... Ever tried La Maudite? Same brewer as Trois Pistoles (Unibroue), another classic.
I have to admit, Quebec breweries make some of my favourite beer labels, although many of them are dark ales and I prefer something lighter. My current favourite is St. Ambroise Apricot Wheat (no spooky label there). But the same brewery makes an excellent pumpkin ale.
I never had La Paienne. I will have to take a look at the local grocery store next time I go there. I'm still hope to find a label starring a werewolf. After all there are many legends related to them in Quebec folklore. Speaking of labels, I think I have a bottle for you that a friend of mine gave me last year. It's Halloween related and comes from a US brewery.
Sounds intriguing . . . :)
