the flies

I look forward to my evening walks.  Around the neighbourhood.  Past ponds and lakes and streams.  It's very relaxing.  Unless it's immediately after a heavy rain.  Much like the heavy rain we experienced earlier this week.  Because heavy rains and warm temperatures combine to spawn pure horror.  Horror in the form of massive clouds of flies.  I'm walking along, minding my own business, enjoying the scenery.  Then suddenly . . . my head is surrounded.  Surrounded by flies.  And maybe it's just me, but every one of those flies looks exactly like this:

I think I'll stay inside until it dries out.

Haha, Yeah I'd be hiding inside if the flies looked like that too!

Not fun. I like swamps and ponds in autumn, when there are ducks and not to many flies.

I don't know what it is about this year but it seems like the flies are so much worse! I would stay in too!

We have nice park in our city that surrounds a small like. It is a beautiful and pleasing place to take a walk. It do, however, get invaded by clouds of flies in hot and humid weather. I prefer to go there in autumn when the leafs of the trees are changing color.
