Do you know what pesty bug is doing this? If you know, there are some good websites to show you how to get rid of them. Sometimes even a little mild soap and water does the trick. (if you don't want to use chemicals/pesticides). Hope that helps! ;)
I agree with Madame Jen. See if you can identify the little critters. And the soap and water idea is good.
Check under the leaves and around the base of the plant for clues.
I had some beetles that came for the asian lilies last year and stayed for everything else I'd planted. Yanked the lilies, killed off the larvae, and now all is well.
I haven't been able to catch any in action. The strange thing is only two or three plants are affected. I have four or five others close by that haven't been touched. :/

Oh I hope the pumpkins will be okay in the end!
Oh no! Hopefully they've had their fill by now?
Drats! Wretched lil' varmints!

I like the soap and water idea. It's worth a try.
I hate garden vermin. That is the worst! Good luck!
