one

I have a pumpkin!

Only one pumpkin. But that's okay. It's a dramatic improvement over last year's crop. And in accordance with the pumpkin patch sub-section of Murphy's Law, it's growing on the plant closest to the driveway. Which means it now must be protected from pesky neighbourhood children and from my daughter's lacklustre parking skills.

Feed your plants! They need bat guano and calcium right about now.

I finally have a third one developing. I will love it and pet it and name it George...

Very cool! We have a couple of babies on ours right now. BUT, we've been getting them, then they dry up and disappear. Although (knock on wood) these seem to be hanging on thus far. But I just realized yesterday, that our Pumpkin Vines have gone ballistic! They are growing like crazy and taking over a huge space in the middle of the yard. The stalks are really thick and they are costing us a fortune to keep them watered in this heat. The hubby is threatening that he will NOT be doing this again next year...ha! Congrats on your baby!

YAY! *throws confetti*

Even if it all goes wrong at this point - which it won't - you still have the satisfaction of finally having a pumpkin!

I'm so happy for you. It's like I'm growing it.

I think the daughter parking problem is simple - revoke all car privileges until November. That's reasonable.

Oh I'm thrilled for you! I've been giving mine tons of water and the large one is as big as a watermelon now.

Give us regular reports of its progress. I wish I had an allotment to grow my own pumpkins here.

Congrats! We have a couple of budding bulbs on our vines, fingers crossed!
Sorry about the 'near the driveway' part though! Remember, if you ever have to move the fruit or the vines, wear gloves and do it *very* slowly and gently -- flesh and rough movement will kill the vines rapidly.
Better to just have someone standing guard with a shotgun.
Or maybe a scarecrow...
