snap, crackle, pop

Back in my day, Rice Krispie Squares were square. Or sometimes rectangular. Rice Krispies. Marshmallows. Butter. That's all. And perhaps some festive sprinkles thrown on top for holidays. And that's the way we liked it.

But eventually, simple quadrilaterals were no longer enough.

It all began innocently enough. Rice Krispie balls rather than squares. Cookie cutter shapes. Festive themes.

But it didn't end there.

Because there are those who have taken it upon themselves to raise the Rice Krispie bar ever higher. And higher. And higher.

When will the madness end?

Yummers....I love rice crispy treats! I just came upon a recipe for them the other day that uses Milky Way Bars, Butter and Chocolate chips intead of marshmellows and they sound delicious. I'm going to try them out.

Oh my! Now you're talking about Rice Krispies art :-)

Next step is Rice Krispies sculpting contest.

Okay - who DOES that? Seriously - while it looks suitably spooky and gross (great things for Halloween fun) who has that kind of time and energy?

A rice crispie sculpture? 20 bucks says I can redecorate my entire house in the time it would take to make that - LOL! Still - it's wild to look at! Thanks for the pics!

PB and Rue - I agree. It's no longer a rice krispie treat when it becomes a sculpture that takes days to create. The cauldron I could handle, but I'd have to draw the line at the zombie :)

Wendy - Making them with Milky Way Bars (Mars Bars in my country) sounds incredible. Must make a note of that!

Hahaha! On Food Network's "Challeng" show, a lot of the dessert artists use rice crispy treats as a foundation of their creations. I find that so funny!
